The community of Tujereng in the Kombo South, recently received a consignment of educational and first aid items worth over 800 pounds from the village’s link, Hertfordshire, based in the United Kingdom at a presentation ceremony held at the village grounds.
The beneficiaries included Tujereng Lower and Upper Basic Schools, Crow and CCF Nursery Schools, the health center and the community. Speaking at the ceremony, Haruna Bojang, the Village Link chairman, hailed the donors for what he called a goodwill gesture. According to him, the donation is not the first of its kind, as they have received various assistance in the past such as the construction of toilets and a multi-purpose centre currently under construction.
He thanked the department of state for Education, The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) and Redcoat, for their valuable support. For his part, Jean Day, who spoke on behalf of the team from Hertfordshire, said the link started in 1995, when a group of people from Nicholas Breakspear visited The Gambia and formed the link with Tujereng. She concluded by reiterating their continuous support to the village and thanked the community of Tujereng for the warm welcome accorded the team.
Malang MS Jatta, acting headmaster of Tujereng Lower Basic School, one of the beneficiaries, who gave the vote of thanks, described the donation as timely, noting that it will go a long way towards easing the constrains facing the community. He assured the donors that the materials will be put into good use. Other speakers included, the Alkalo’s representative, Karamo Jagne Bojang.
