Hayatou to witness Wafu final

The president of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF), Mr Issa Hayatou will witness the final of the Wafu Cup competition currently holding in four cities of Delta State in Nigeria, Observer Sports has been reliably informed.

Dr. Amos Adamu , the president of the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) has revealed that the CAF supremo has accepted the offer to witness the final of the two-week event, adding: “Hayatou is expected to arrive in Nigeria on Saturday, December 6, and would be housed in one of the prestigious hotels in Delta State.”

“The CAF president has been following the development in WAFU and has accepted to witness the closing ceremony,” revealed the Wafu boss who also hailed the Delta State government for its support in ensuring a hitch-free competition.

"I'm particularly excited with the tremendous support extended to the WAFU by the Delta State government by allowing us use the facilities in the State. The Delta State government also provided logistics support that has ensured that there are no hitches.

"All the matches have been held and the players, coaches and other technical officials associated with the competition have marveled at the quality of facilities found in Delta State.

"I will embark on a visitation tour of the four venues next week to physically feel the pulse of the players. But what I have gathered from some of their officials and the players that I have seen their matches, they are happy to be in Nigeria.

"With what we have seen, WAFU executive are further encouraged to start the process of looking for funds to run the WAFU inter-club competition from next year, early next year to be specific. The inter-club competition is relatively cheaper," Adamu said.

Nigeria through to quarter-final

Meanhile, the hosts Nigeria are through to the quarter-final after a 1-0 win over Benin Republic on Monday. Samuel Tswanga scored the Flying Eagles winning and only goal from a free kick in the 82nd minute.
