The Alkalo of Gunjur village in Kombo South, Western Region, Alhagie Sulay Touray, last Thursday presided over the inauguration of a borehole at Gunjur Lower Basic School funded by Hart for Gambia , a charitable organisation based in Belgium .

In his inaugural speech, Alkalo Touray thanked the donors for their valuable contribution towards the development of the school.

He said that water was a big problem for the school in the past year and he urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the project.

He revealed that borehole will go way in providing safe and clean drinking water to school and the community at large.

He thanked the headmaster and his staff for their commitment, hard work and dedication towards the development of education in The Gambia.

The headmaster of the school, Jerreh Bojang, expressed gratitude to the donors and their friend Lamin Jatta, for the tremendous support towards the development of his school.

He revealed that 5,000 people will get access to quality drinking water and he assured the donors that the facility will be put into good and proper use.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman, School Management Committee, Bajai Bojang, challenged the parents to force their children to report at school on time. He also advised students to take their education seriously, noting that education is the key to success in life.

He assured the donors that the school management committee will do its best to make sure that the borehole is protected.

For his part, the President of Hart of Gambia, Johan Dezuter, said that quality drinking water is significant in human lives.

He stated that the organisation’s funds come from donors in Belgium and expressed his organisation’s readiness in supporting the school when the need arises. He commended the people of Gunjur for their warm welcome.

Other speakers include the chairman Gunjur Village Development Committee, Famara Bojang, Jankey Saidy and Nyansimba Aja Mai Kebbeh, who both expressed similar sentiments.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Fatou S Bojang who expressed her delight at the gesture, adding that it will go a long way in alleviating the problem of water in the school.
