Guaranty Trust Bank (Gambia) Ltd has been named Bank of the Year 2008 by the Gambia Chamber of Commerce & Industry, in recognition of its outstanding and consistently improving service delivery standards.
The Gambia Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI) is an umbrella association for the private sector in The Gambia. The award, which was presented to the bank at the GCCI’s 15th Annual Business Award Dinner in Senegambia, is based on members’ votes and an analysis of the Key Business Performance Indicators (KBPIs) of shortlisted banks. According to a press release from the Guaranty Trust Bank (Gambia) Ltd, the bank is also credited with pioneering a transformation of Gambia’s banking sector, by introducing such innovative products as Telephone Banking, the Young Savers account for children, highly customized banking services, as well as the widely acclaimed GTB Joni Joni, Gambia’s first local money transfer service.
The release added that in 2006 and 2007, GTBank (Gambia) Ltd was nominated "Service Provider of The Year", a grouping for Gambian firms in such sectors as telecommunications, banking and finance, etc. In acknowledging the award, Lekan Sanusi, managing director, GTBank (Gambia) Ltd, stated that: "It is heart-warming that GTBank’s quest for excellent service and superior financial performance has been recognized in The Gambia after seven years of consistent hard work. The GTBank Gambia team expresses its appreciation to all who have contributed to the achievement of this milestone."

GTBank (Sierra Leone) Ltd was adjudged "Financial Institution of the Year 2006", during the Annual Sierra Leone National Achievements Award in December 2006, while GTBank (Ghana) Ltd also recorded the landmark achievement of attracting a 15% investment in its stakes by the FMO in January 2007,” the release noted.
