Back and Next - Back and NextGTUCCU observes 12th AGM

The Gambia Teachers Union Cooperative Credit Union (GTUCU) held its 12th AGM on Saturday 11 April, 2009 at the GTU headquarters, located along MDI road.
The event brought together teachers from all regions of The Gambia. The AGM was declared opened by Baboucarr Jeng, the General Manager of NACCUG who confirmed the quorum of 260 delegates as only 250 delegates were needed for the proceedings to start. This was followed by the Audited Accounts, that were laid before the delegates by Augustus Prom, for debate and discussion.
Several speakers used the platform to get into the activities of the credit union that positively impacted on the live of its members during these past years. As such, the Treasurer of the GTUCCU, Haddy S. Njie gave a brief account of the finances while Absatou Saidykhan also spoke on the supervision role and activities of the Supervisory Committee of the GTUCCU over the year under consideration.
Feedback from the delegates revealed that the management of the GTUCCU laid a healthy and balance statement of accounts and gave a true and fair view of the state of accounts. Mentioned was also made of implementation of shelter for teachers in the form of ‘Teacher Villages” and a request has already been made to the president’s office to that effect for land to pilot the homes for teachers.
The AGM was also an opportunity for the delegates to lift a corner of the veil on the processing of 932 loan applications amounted to D19, 779,102.00 that was disbursed to qualifying loan applicants. The main attraction for the day was Mrs. Fatou Cham-Saho, acting managing director, who deputised for Baboucarr O. Joof on a two-year leave of absence to pursue a Commonwealth master’s degree program in the field of commerce in Oakland, New Zealand.
Other speakers included Mr. J. Ndure who was attending his last AGM as president of GTU as his tenure ends this year (2009).
