Gamcel, The Gambia’s first and leading GSM operator, continues to demonstrate more support and commitment to sports development.

In a ceremony held on Tuesday at the Gamcel head office along the Mamadi Manjang Highway, the GSM operator presented  a cheque for more than D74,000 to Ansu Sowe, a renowned Gambian athlete, for him to represent The Gambia at a marathon, slated for the 29th of this month in Toronto, Canada.

Presenting the cheque to Ansu Sowe, Kebba Bojang, Gamcel’s  senior manager, Marketing and Sales, described Gamcel as a public company which is entrusted with the task to support the athlete, as he has been representing the country in many international competitions. He reminded the gathering that Gamcel actively supports the U-17 team in all their international competitions. According to Bojang, the support is also meant to plough back something to society, adding that they have been sponsoring the athlete since 2001. He expressed hope that Ansu will come back with a good result from the Georgia Marathon.  He also advised him to be a good ambassador of The Gambia, as he is going to represent the country.

In receiving the cheque, The Gambia’s best athlete, Ansu Sowe, thanked Gamcel for their support. He described them as true partners.  He said he has been representing the country in many international events such as Kenya, India and Hong Kong and has always performed well.  He assured them of his full participation.

He thanked all those who have been supportive to him, especially the Gambian leader who sponsored his trip to India and Hong Kong.
