Gambians View FIFA World Cup Trophy

The FIFA Coca- Cola World Cup Trophy, which began its longest journey to almost all the African countries was last evening unveiled  to the Gambian people through the Gambian leader, President Jammeh, at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

President Jammeh, the chief patron of this historic occasion, commended FIFA/ Coca- Cola for choosing The Gambia as one of the host of the coveted World Cup Trophy tour. The Gambian leader however noted that the Gambia is the only country that celebrated the trophy at the National Stadium.

Thousands of football lovers converged at the country’s famous football arena to avail themselves the opportunity to have a close-up-view of the authentic FIFA world cup trophy, which can be described as a rare life-time opportunity.

The historic occasion was also graced by Vice President Dr. Aja Isatou Njie Saidy and a cross section of top government officials.

The occasion also saw the honoring of Gambia’s most celebrated football legend, Alhaji Momodou Biri Biri Njie, as the most outstanding sports personality for 2009.

The trophy tour to the Gambia was headed by FIFA Media Officer, Emmanuel Maradas.
