Gambia U-17 Succums To Nigeria

The rejuvenated Super Eaglets of Nigeria entertained their Gambian counterparts, the African U-17 champions, to an emphatic 2-0 win as part of the second international friendly encounter played at the Box Bar Mini-Stadium in Brikama yesterday.

The visitors took the lead through substitute Terry Envoh when he capitalised on a powerful shot by team mate, Rahman Aziz, to the delight of Nigerian coach, John Obuh in the 54th minute.

The Gambian side sporadically went close to levelling the scores through Alasan Camara, Jatta Baldeh and Buba Melez Jallow in the later stage of the second period, but were denied by the Super Eaglets’ instrumental goal keeper, Paul Danguma, who made some world-class saves to the frustration of Coach Tarik Siagy and his men.

Melez who is currently enjoying a spectacular form for the two times African champions dashed the Gambia’s hope of a victory when he failed to capitalise on the best chance of the game from a penalty-spot, which came as a result of his brilliant effort few minutes from time.

The visitors doubled the lead, courtesy of a clever strike from Sad Onansi close to stoppage time.
