Gambia to host ECOFEPA launching

After fruitful discussions and consultations, members of the Ecowas Female Parliamentarians Association (ECOFEPA), on Friday, at the end of their four-day pre-launch seminar at the Paradise Suits Hotel, finally chose The Gambia as the host for the official launching of the asociation which will take place later.

The seminar which brought together 22 members of ECOFEPA, also witnessed the setting up of three committees, namely the logistics, communications and budget committees, to enable them prepare for the launching. During their stay in The Gambia, members of ECOFEPA paid courtesy calls on Hon. Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay, speaker of the National Assembly, Aja Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy, vice president and secretary of state for Women’s Affairs and His Excellency, Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, President of the Republic, to discuss ECOFEPA, its activities, as well as plans to organise the grand launching in The Gambia.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the closing, Hon. Victoria Saidou-Kamara, 4th deputy speaker of the Ecowas parliament, who also doubles as the coordinator of ECOFEPA, spoke at length on their activities as well as plans to host their launching in The Gambia. Madam Kamara expressed delight at the warm reception accorded to them by the Gambian authorities and expressed hope that the launching will be a successful event in The Gambia.

For her part, Hon. Haddy Nyang-Jagne, National Assembly member for Jeshwang constituency also expressed delight that The Gambia will host the ECOFEPA launching and also deliberated on some of the objectives of ECOFEPA. Maria Da Ressurreicao Lopes da Silva, from Cape Verda, Bana Fatime from Niger, Mambusa Samb Diack from Senegal and Filomena Delgado from Cape Verde, all expressed similar sentiments.
