Gambia Methodist Tops GABECE Exams

The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MOBSE) has released the results of the 2009 Gambia Basic Education Certificate Examinations (GABECE), with the Gambia Methodist Academy leading the list.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MOBSE), a total number of candidates who sat to the examination this year were 19,542 students, out of which 9, 865 were male and 9,677 female.

The press release stated that the top candidates were Fanta Fofana and Kuta B. Susso, all from the Gambia Methodist Academy, while Alhagie Lamin Jallow and Ali Sumbundu, both from Charles Jow Memorial Academy, attained grade 1 in eight subjects and grade 3 in their ninth subject.

The released further revealed that a total number of 21 candidates scored aggregates 6 in 2009, out of which 13 from the Gambia Methodist Academy, 4 from Charles Jow Memorial Academy, 2 from St. Therese’s Upper Basic, 1 from Ndow’s Comprehensive Upper Basic Schools, all in Region One and 1 from Mingdaw Upper Basic School in Region Two of the Western Region.

The press release urged the concerned candidates to collect their individual results from their respective schools, adding that the admission into grade 10 should be based on passes in core subjects, to be decided by the Board of Governors, and not exceeding aggregate 42.
