FROGS hit a million

Education has long been a priority of the government. This manifested by the increase in the number of schools and scholarship packages in the recent past.

However, the government is not alone in this venture. Many organisations have come in to complement its efforts to educating the Gambian children. Among which is an association called ‘ Friends of the Gambian Schools’.

FROGS was set up in 1993 to supply teaching and learning materials to schools in The Gambia. These materials are shipped by sea to The Gambia. By 2005, the association had shipped 32 containers, helping up to 250 schools at a cost of more than 100,000 pounds. All of which was raised in the UK. When Sally and Malcolm Reader decided to set up home in The Gambia, it was no longer possible to collect and ship learning materials, so the funds raised in the UK were switched to carrying our “projects” in needy schools, and part of this new plan was to ensure that every Region in The Gambia benefited.

 FROGS has just completed their first 50 projects and the total spent on these projects has just passed One Million Dalasi. Projects as diverse as supplying gardening tools to laying new classroom floors, fencing schools, building school kitchens, equipping classrooms and setting up feeding programmes have been completed. And they promised that more projects are on the way.

FROGS are always pleased to hear from school that have an outstanding project that they might be able to help with. The association however, realised that project considered cannot always be carried out sometimes for the simple reason that it is simply too big.
