For Allegedly Stealing Newspapers, Five Observer Staff Arrested

Five members of the Daily Observer Company staff have been arrested, police said at a press briefing in Banjul yesterday.

Destiny Omox, a vendor, Alieu Demba, Kajali Mass, Sulayman Sowe, all printers; and Lamin Bojang, a security officer, were in the early hours of Monday morning arrested for allegedly stealing copies of newspapers of the company.

According to ASP Kebba Ansu Sawaneh, Officer Commanding CID Kanifing Division an ambush was laid at the Observer premises following a tip-off that some staff are engaged in illegal sales of copies of the paper. He said that in the early hours of Monday five suspects were apprehended with 200 copies. He revealed that another suspect, Bakary Jammeh, is on the run whilst others are being investigated.

In a separate development, the police arrested one Saihou Bojang for impersonation together with other two partners.

They were reportedly arrested around the Independence Stadium by a police patrol team.

Saihou Bojang was reportedly found in full military uniform.  Both of them are said to be security officers working with Uncle Sam Services. One Abdou Drammeh was also said to have been arrested while in possession of a knife.
