Foday Badjie: Goalie Par Excellence

Friday, January 23, 2009

Foday Badjie serves a powerful cocktail of skill and strength in every game he plays  for Kaira Silo, a second division outfit of The Gambia Football Association. He was the player most responsible for his side’s victory over Real De Banjul in the quarter-finals of The Gambia Football Association 2007/8 FA Cup by saving a penalty against Real De Banjul at Serrekunda West. The team went on to win 2-1.

With only two seasons at his club, Foday has become the current leading goalkeeper of Kaira Silo FC  and has remained the first choice for  team coach Amat Cham, along side Matarr Jaiteh, Assan Lowe and other.

His sound positioning combined with real agility and extreme bravery  has given the youngster an opportunity to be  selected to train with the U-17 team of The Gambia but he was not lucky enough to make the final team.

The ambitious and calm keeper is a local of New Jeshwang and came to prominence as a player with Jeshwang United, a well know Nawettan team from the Serrekunda West zone.

Foday recently helped KMC win the Nayconf Football Trophy after 10 years. He played in all the games for KMC and saved a penalty against NBR in the semi-finals.

When asked which team the outstanding keeper aims to play for he replied; “I want to become a professional player and would want to play for The Gambia and Manchester United”.
