The police have arrested one Mr Sirach Virburg, a Dutch national, on Monday and since charged him with “importation of ammunition and in possession of firearms without licence”.
Briefing journalists about the incident yesterday at the police headquarters in Banjul, Chief Inspector Fulo Mbye, Station Officer at the Kotu Police Station, said that Mr Sirach Virburg, 68, had a problem with his wife who reported the matter to the station in Kotu.
According to him the wife, Filomen Jarjue, reported that Mr Sirach Virburg had threatened to kill and bury her.
He revealed that as a result of a search conducted on the suspect’s house, a gun and a pistol was found there.
He further said that the claim of threatening to kill is being investigated.
