CRR communities sensitised on solar panels upgrading

Three communities in the Central River Region, were recently sensitised on the upgrading of solar panels water supply system.

The sensitisation was organised by the Regional Panel Program Phase II, which started in 2002 and will end out in June 2009. Momodou Morro Ceesay, the project coordinator said the project will phase out in June this year and before phasing out, funds are available to upgrading solar panels in nine communities in the country.

He stressed the need for regular consultation with the beneficiaries in upgrading the existing system. He pointed out that Brikamaba, Madina Nfally and Barajally will benefit from the upgrading and replacement. He advised them to raise funds for the sustainability and maintenance of the solar panels.

Alhagie Ganyie Touray, the governor of the Central River Region spoke at length on the rampant stealing of solar panels in the region. He called for concerted efforts in the proper up keep of the solar panels. He said the importance of water to our daily lives cannot be over emphasised, noting that without water, life would be difficult.

Lamin Darboe, the deputy governor of Central River Region, called on the beneficiaries to establish water management committees for sustainability purpose. Alieu Jawara of Barajally assured them that they will do everything possible to appoint a night watchman to secure the panels.
