CONDOLENCE

Editorial,

It is an inevitable reality that every soul must one day or the other exit our world of existence. It is also a stark truth that each and everyone will be remembered for our contributions in the progress of our societies. As  Shakespeare said, life is a stage where every human being is like an actor on it. Whatever you do, will serve as testimony of your character and personality with which you will be remembered even after your exit from the world of the living.

In this respect, we express with heavy hearts, our condolences to the friends and relatives of the family of the former speaker of the National Assembly, Njie BP. As the cold hands of death have snatched him away from us at this crucial time, we pray that his departed soul will rest in eternal peace.

The death of Alhaji Njie has not only closed a chapter in our political history, it has also created a vacuum that can hardly be filled. Njie BP as a former speaker of the First Republic’s parliament also served as speaker of parliament of the Senegambian confederation, forged by The Gambia and Senegal in the wake of the foiled coup led by Kukoi Samba Sanyang. Former Speaker Njie was also a prominent businessman and had served as managing director of British Petroleum-Gambia for many years; hence the nickname Njie BP. He is survived by many children.

Those who had the opportunity to have had lived and shared experiences with him, spoke of him as a caring family man and an  upstanding social figure. Even though he is gone, his services to the country and Africa at large will never be forgotten. We will continue to remember him and will continue to be grateful to him for making his immense contribution to the development of our great nation.

We are indeed sorrowful over the irreplaceable loss, but whatever God ordains is the best for society. As the nation mourns your death, we pray that the Almighty Allah grants you and all the others who passed onto the land of the silent fathers, his bountiful blessings and peaceful rest. May he also continue to guide and protect your family, friends, relatives and loved ones.
