Company Ten Red Scorpions Close Gap On Leaders

Friday, July 03, 2009

The 2008/09 Gambia Football Association Female division one league championship which has unearthed some wonderful games since the commencement of the campaign is almost coming to an end with only two games left to complete another exciting and spectacular female football season.

Red Scorpions, Company Ten are still in the race to clinch the league, taking into consideration the current fall of the leaders, Interior whose unbeaten run this season suffered a major setback. They fall to an embarrassing 1-0 defeat to fourth place Abuko United, after a Veronic Malack 84th minute strike, as part of a game in hand, played recently between the two sides.

The former champions were also involved in another disappointing one all draw against relegation threaten Makasutu a forth night ago, leaving them stagnant on 19 points.

Interior is closely followed by Company Ten  who collected 16 points  in 8 matches and a win for them in their last remaining two matches will definitely see them climb on top of the table on 22 points should the leaders slip in the hands of  Company Ten and Kinteh’s United,  respectively.

Red Scorpions in 3rd place also on 16 points but with lesser goals than Company  Ten will also be aiming to collect all the needed points when they meet 4th place Abuko United and Kinteh’s United.

Abuko United who are currently occupying 4th  position  on 13 points has the possibility of finishing among the top three  teams, if they can snatch 6 points in their two matches when they lock horns with Makasutu and Red Scorpions, while Kinteh’s United and fellow strugglers Makasutu will battle it out to remain in the top flight football next year.

The second division league is also nearing its climax. Armed Forces are still leading the table on 15 points followed by Jamicity on 11 points. City Girls  occupied the 3rd spot on 6 points, followed by Future bi who collected 4 points while the relegation thrown Jeshwang United are still rooted at the bottom of the 5 club championship on a single point  with two games left to compete  to wrap-up division two league.
