In his handing over speech,  the regional governor, Alhagie Ganyie Touray, said the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Vision 2020 of the government of The Gambia call for poverty alleviation in the country.

He added that this was why the government of The Gambia went into partnership with the World Bank in the designing and implementation of CDDP.  He commended the project officials for their first ever disbursement of funds in the country and called on the beneficiaries to make the best use of the funds.

The project coordinator, Lamin Jarjusey, pointed out that the project’s aim is primarily to empower communities. He urged and challenged the village development committee members to summon meetings as soon as they arrive back home to ensure the smooth implementation of the projects.
