Cashier Pleads Guilty Of Stealing Over D4m

One Wandifa Marika was yesterday 6 October, 2009, arraigned before Principal Magistrate Joseph Ikpala of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court for stealing over D4m, to which he pleaded guilty.

According to the charge sheet, the accused between the month of February, 2008 and 7th September, 2009, at Bank PHB in the Kanifing Municipality by virtue of his employment as a cashier responsible for the controlling of the vault, fraudulently stole monies on different occasions, amounting to D4, 324, 187, being the property of the said bank.

Inspector Fadera, who was the Prosecuting Officer, told the court that he was not in the position to give out the facts of the case on the grounds that the case file was at the Attorney-General’s Chambers for legal advice.

The trial Magistrate as a result, adjourned the case to 14th October, 2009, for conviction. He granted the accused bail in the sum of D250, 000, with two Gambian sureties in like sum, who should deposit their passports with the Assistant Registrar.
