Boost for Bakoteh Annex Lower Basic School

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

Mr and Mrs Hanny, Dutch couple, recently donated school materials to BakotehAnnexLowerBasicSchool in Region I.

The items which include 700 exercise books, 3800 pencils, drinking plastic buckets, praying mats, pens and rulers, sharpeners and erasers, footballs, school bags, sandals and blackboard dusters, were handed over to the students through their Gambian counterparts Mr Lamin Sarr and Mr Bakary Bojang both teachers and former students of the school. The items were given to the students from grade one to six.

In an interview with this paper shortly after the presentation, the couple in a happy mood expressed their joy for making such assistance to the students of Bakoteh Annex on behalf of their Dutch friends. Many teachers in the school who also spoke to this paper described the gesture as timely, noting that the presentation was the first of its kind in the history of the school for such materials to be given openly to students in the presence of their teachers. Many teachers also described Mr Sarr as a concerned teacher who does things in a transparent manner and urged others to emulate him.
