The Berending Red Cross Link in Upper Nuimi, North Bank Region, last Thursday organised a week-long training on First Aid at Berending Senior Secondary School.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Outman Jallow, branch officer, said the training is in line with the purpose of the International Red Cross movement which is to protect life and health and ensure the welfare of human beings. “We the volunteers of the GRCS deemed it prudent to continue organising summer camp, workshops, seminar, drama tours, and symposia, most of which are health related programmes, ranging from HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and so on, in order to enlighten our volunteers and the nation at large,” he said.

For his part, Mohamed Hydara, assistant youth area representative, highlighted the importance of the camp. “Before one becomes a seasoned volunteer, you have to be well equipped with skills and experience,” he noted.
