Bench Warrant For UK-Based Gambian

Principal Magistrate Emmanuel Nkea of the Banjul Magistrates’ Court recently issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Momodou Lamin Dibba, a UK-based Gambian, together with his two sureties.

He gave the orders following an application made by the prosecution for the accused to be remanded in prison, culminating from his failure to appear in court at the last adjourned date.

Mr. Dibba is charged with stealing, which he completely denied.

According to the particulars of alleged offence, on 16 October 2008, at the Tottenham Hale Rail Station North London in the UK, Mr. Dibba unlawfully and fraudulently converted to his personal use the sum of 10,000 Pound Sterling, which is equivalent to D430, 000.00 given to him by one Pa Fadera for onward delivery to one Sheriffo Touray of Bakau.

He was sometimes in last month arraigned before Magistrate Surahata Danso, who granted him a court bail in the sum of D500, 000.

The case was adjourned to 8th October 2009.
