At least 22 members from the Bedford United Church in Canada arrived in The Gambia last week for a weeklong visit, under the auspices of the Nova Scotia Gambia Association (NSGA).

During the visit, the group will embark on a series of activities in some schools in the Greater Banjul Area, to see the peer health education program in the schools. They will also visit some historical sites in the country. The visit is part of the Nova Scotia-Gambia Association’s drive in strengthen the already existing bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Miss Andrea, the executive director of the NSGA, expressed delight in receiving the group.  “We are delighted to have this group in the country. They have been strong supporters of the bilateral cooperation between the two countries,” she concluded. Mr Rick, group leader, said they came to The Gambia to see how their counterparts in the country are promoting leadership skills in schools and communities through the peer health education program.

“We will also learn to transfer the skills to Canada to promote positive health behaviour among young people, which will help to develop them to become responsible adults in future,” he said. He added that the visit will greatly help them to explore the tradition and the culture of the Gambian people and to promote cultural diversities.
