Creola Bar and Restaurant located at Atlantic Boulevard Road, Bakau New Town was the venue for an artistic celebration of black history last Friday.
The event was meant to celebrate black achievement and global unification.
The manifestation was witnessed by the United States Ambassador to The Gambia, Barry L. Wells, and was punctuated with spectacular performances by various artists who gave speeches and recited poems.
Speaking to this reporter during the programme, Dionne Sims, one of the organizers of the event, said they organized it for their children and grandchildren to be proud of them. “Our roots are here, we want to start here in The Gambia. We are proud of being an African,” she said. No one ever thought that we would have a black president in White House but today Barack is there,” said Dionne.
“We should not forget the struggle made by our ancestors we should make their struggle worthwhile”, she challenged.
The black American lady expressed optimism regarding the long-term dream of African unity.
