The Gambia Armed Forces moved within touching distance of winning their first league title in many years after a convincing 2-0 win over Bakau United in their second round opener at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai yesterday.
Skillful forward Landing Darboe, alias Delpiero, scored in each half to seal the victory which sent the Soldiers eight points clear on top with 26 points in twelve matches. The defeat saw Bakau United lose their second position status to Gamtel who beat Steve Biko 1-0 in their week twelve meeting played in Brikama yesterday to earn their fourth win in twelve matches.
Samger also ease past Sea View 1-0 in another week twelve tie at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium on Sunday to climb within the mid-table. Earlier on Saturday, Wallidan and Real de Banjul settled for a 1-1 draw in their Banjul derby, while Africell earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over fellow strugglers Tallinding and leapfrogged them [Tallinding] to eleventh position - just three points adrift of mis-firing Hawks were held to a 2-2 draw by Brikama United in the on Friday.
