Four individuals, namely Saikou Bojang, Jarral Kujabi, Modou Kanteh and Abdou Drammeh, were recently arrested by personnel of the Gambia Police Force, who were patrolling the streets of the Kanifing Layout area.
These men were accused of being in possession of weapons such as knives, and were believed to be part of those who attack and robb innocent people of their belongings such as mobile phones, money, etc.
The alleged impersonators were yesterday paraded at the Banjul Police Headquarters, where they were interrogated before being charged for impersonation. According to ASP Landing Bojang, chief of Operations, Kanifing Division, Saikou Bojang and Modou Kanteh were found in military and Uncle Sam Security Services uniforms respectively, while the others were in possession of knives.
ASP Bojang told journalists that the police will involve the military police in their investigation, to know how they managed to get hold of the military uniform.
Alleged Daily Observer criminal case
In a separate development, the police also paraded four employees of the Observer Company (Gambia Ltd) - Alieu Demba, printer; Kajali Mass, printer; Sulayman Sowe, printer; and Lamin Bojang, chief security at the Observer Company - along with Destiny Omox, a vendor, all accused of stealing copies of the Daily Observer newspaper and selling them.
According to ASP Kebba Ansu Sawaneh, officer commanding, Kanifing Division, the five were arrested on Monday by personnel of the Gambia Police Force and were immediately taken to Kairaba Police Station for questioning.
