4 new army barracks for Gambia soon- Major General Tamba

Major General Lang Tombong Tamba, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), has said that plans are underway to build four new military barracks in The Gambia.

The new barracks, according to the CDS will be built in Njogon Village in the Lower Niumi District, North Bank Region (NBR), Lamin Koto in the Central River Region (CRR), Fatoto in the Upper River Region (URR) and Mansakonko in the Lower River Region (LRR).

Major General Tamba disclosed this plan yesterday during a security meeting with members of the Civil Society organisations (CSOs) at the Western Region Governor’s Office in Brikama, as part of his nation wide security tour. The tour was meant to inspect security units, find out about their working conditions as well as to chart a way forward for their development and for the security of The Gambia as a whole.The three-day tour began at Barra in Nuimi and ended in the WR and the Greater Banjul Area (GBA) respectively.

According to the CDS, The Gambia Armed Forces, under the able, dynamic and visionary leadership of President Jammeh, is resolved now than ever before to provide 24 hours security service to all Gambians and none Gambians alike. “The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) is ready to bring 24 hours security services to the door steps of all Gambians.

The  security, peace and stability of The Gambia will never be compromised.The president of the Republic of The Gambia has made it clear that security, stability and peace of the country should never be compromised and The Gambia Armed Forces is determined to execute to that effect without compromise,” CDS Tamba told the Brikama gathering.

CDS Tamba highlighted numerous development projects initiated by President Jammeh since he assumed power from 1994 to date.  Major General Tamba also called on the Civil Society Organisations to work in closer collaboration with all the security operatives in the country, inorder to promote peace, security and stability in The Gambia. He urged them (CSOs) to weed out drug abusers, drug peddlers and other bad elements in the society.

The CDS also spoke at length on the importance of security, especially the role of security operatives in any given society. He cited the Democratic Republic of Congo and other war torn countries in the world as examples to back up his comments on the importance of security, peace and stability in the world.

CDS Tamba also paid special tribute to Chief Dembo Santang Bojang, Chief of Brikama, Kombo Central, over what he described as his tireless and relentless support to President Jammeh and the APRC Government.  “I could clearly recalled that, Chief Dembo Santang Bojang, was among the first Gambians to instruct President to remove the Army uniform and contest for presidency during the transition period,” Major General Tamba told the gathering. Lamin Sanneh, governor of Western Region,  chaired the ceremony.
