The business-like Gambian team just at the commencement of the match in the 7minutes of the game, striker Njogu Demba registered his first goal for The Gambia. Again in the 21st minute of the first half scorpion captain Ebou Sillah missed a chance despite the numerous counter attacks launched by the Gambian strikers the lone stars made all efforts to equalize but a rocky Gambian side did not allow them to penetrate.
Ousman Jallow through a pass from Njogu Demba in the 18yard box of the Liberian half scored the second goal in the 26th minute of the first half.
During the second half the Liberian side made lots of substitutions in order to level the scores but the Scorpions did not give them any chance to settle, but instead all their efforts were frustrated.
The Gambian versatile striker Njogu Demba in the 80th minute of the game scored the third goal for The Gambia.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the match Scorpions coach, Paul Put, said his team has put high level pressure on the Liberian team in the first 45minutes of the match noting that before the game there was lots of intimidation from the German coach.
Coach Put described the Scorpions as a good team with young promising players.
Commenting on the return leg of The Gambia and Senegal match slated for October 12 in Dakar the coach pointed out that Senegal is a big team but The Gambia also have a good team “we will do our work to prepare the team for the match,” he noted.
He added that the Scorpions have a future.
Commenting also on the performances of Cherno Samba and OJ Koroma, he said they are young players and have a future.
