IAAF President to Visit The Gambia

The president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), Lamin Diack, will embark on a private visit to The Gambia tomorrow.

According to the secretary general of The Gambia Athletics Association, Dodou Joof, (Capi) Mr Diack is coming to extendcondolencesfor adeceased uncle,the late Dodou Ceesay who passed away recently in The Gambia

He stated that Mr Diack is aSenegambian with parentsfrom both The Gambia and Senegal.

He said that over the years as the most senior official of the IAAF and the first African ever to attain such position Mr. Diack has always been a true friend and brother of The Gambia Athletics Association in particular.

Mr Joof revealed that at the moment he is about to secure scholarships for the best Gambian athletes to train at the IAAF high performance training centre for sprinters in Kingston, Jamaica (we also approached him soliciting assistance to resurface the already worn out synthetic tracks at the Independence Stadium).

Sources have further revealed that arrangements are underway for Mr Diack to meet Gambian sport authorities.

He is expected to leave on Saturday.
