Fatal accident kills 5

At least 5 people were reported to have lost their lives in a fatal accident involving a military truck (GNA 101) and a passenger vehicle - Geleh-geleh - (BJL 3809 A), yesterday morning, along the Coastal Road in Yundum, the Daily Observer has learnt. The deceased include four civilians - Haddy Jallow, Fatou Bah, Abdoulie Kah and an unidentified woman - and one soldier, Private Abba Sanyang. It also left many people injured.

Our sources report that the deceased and the injured persons were rushed to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH) in Banjul, where relatives and many onlookers gathered.

An insider at the RVTH informed the Daily Observer that at least 11 injured people are currently admitted at the RVTH theatre room.

When contacted, 2nd Lt Omar B Bojang, the public relations officer of the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), confirmed the death of Private Abba Sanyang, whom he described as a new recruit.

He finally revealed that investigations into the cause(s) of the accident have been launched.
