Gambia U-17 Eliminate Sierra Leone

The darling U17 team of The Gambia, better know as the Baby Scorpions, on Saturday 13thSeptember 2008, eliminated the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone by 3-0 in Freetown in the CAF U17 championship preliminaries round.

The darling Scorpions won both home and away game with an aggregate scoreline of 7-1. In Saturday’s game Saihou Gassama open the scoring in the 26thminute from a free kick after Real de Banjul striker Ebou Bojang was brought down by Demba Camara Sierra Leone.

In a commentary monitor by West Coast Radio, the Baby Scorpions put more pressure on the home team and got the second goal in the 58thminute from striker Ebou Bojang. The Sierra Leone teams hope of qualifying was dashed after Alasana Camara grabbed the third goal for the visiting team in the 76thminute.

The Gambia will be meet Ghana in the last qualifying game for the CAF U17 Youth Championship tournament. Ghana beat Libya 3-0 in the first leg in Accra and 2-1 on Friday in Tripoli and won 5-1 on aggregate.

The Black Stars of Ghana will host The Gambia in the first leg of the second round tie slated for the weekend of 7-9 November 2008, and the return leg to be play two weeks later in Banjul.

The Gambia will now be meeting Ghana in both U17 and U20 levels in the second round of the qualifying group stages, and Ghana will host both teams in the first leg.

The 28 man delegation, air lifted by The Gambia Civil Aviation Authority GCAA, who once again stand to promote Gambian football, are expected to land in Banjul today 15thSeptember 2008, at the Banjul International Airport.
