Bakau Car Thieves Arraigned

Biran Bawo, Mamour Ceesay and Dembo Fofona were yesterday, 10th September 2008, arraigned before Principal Magistrate Buba Jawo of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court and charged with three counts, namely conspiracy to commit a felony, stealing a motor vehicle and robbery.

The particulars of the offence on count one, stated that on or about the 24th August 2008 at Bakau town, the accused conspired to commit a felony. Count two stated that on the same day and place, the accused stole a motor vehicle BJL 5435 A, valued at D90, 000, being the property of one Ebrima Jatta. While Count three stated that the accused on the same day at MDI road robbed a precious bag containing D2, 000, a mobile phone valued at D6, 800. They all pleaded not guilty.

Lawyer Gomez, who was representing Biran Bawo, applied to the court to grant the accused bail. Prosecuting officer, sub-inspector Fadera, did not object to the application.

As a result, Magistrate Jawo granted the accused bail in the sum of D150, 000 with a Gambian surety each. The case was adjourned to 24th September 2008 for hearing.
