Gambia Ports Authority started the defence of their FA Cup title with a massive 4-1 victory against Tallinding United on Thursday.
Tallinding had the first golden chance minutes into the game but striker David Gomez fired the shot wide. GPA’s Gibou Drammeh made no mistake in putting his team ahead in the 17th minute when he fired in a left-footed cracker after dribbling pass all his markers.
Tallinding went to recess with a two goal deficit with Dawda Sey registering another for GPA in the dying minutes of the first half. Tallinding faithfuls could not believe what they saw when Modou Njie Sarr banged in a third for GPA to make it 3-0 just three minutes into the second half.
GPA management, players and officials were seen smiling broadly for the first time since their relegation from the top flight as goals started to pour like rain. The Ferry Boys could not however, deny Tallinding from fetching a consolation as substitute striker Sainey Gibba, joint leading goal poacher in the just ended Second Division League, netted in a consolation in the 64th minute.
As if GPA bench was not satisfied with that, Coach Faraba Fofana fielded in Ebrima Drammeh who made his present felt by firing in a fourth from close range just 5 minutes into the game in the 87th minute thus breaking the back of Tallinding United.
All that GPA elated coach Faraba Fofana could say after the final whistle was, “I am a very happy man today. This is what we have been waiting for, breaking the jinx. I have started well and I hope it continues.”
