Aja Fatou Ashombi Bojang, President Jammeh’s mother, has said she is impressed with the positive response of Gambians  to her son’s back-to-the-land call.

Speaking in her native village, Bujinka, in Foni Kansala, shortly after inspecting work carried out on her rice field by a group of wellwishers from the area and the Kombos, Aja Ashombi said the president wants The Gambia to attain food self sufficiency in the shortest possible time.

According to her, no one is being forced to farm but the call is only an advice for all to be able to meet their food demand at the household level. She thanked the workers at the field for their good work and assured them of her support at all times.

From there, Aja Ashombi and her entourage, which included the chief of the area, proceeded to her groundnut field where germination of the crop has just begun. She told journalists that the last harvest of the farm was really good, expressing optimism of a re-occurrence this season.
