Friday, June 27, 2008
A four-day training workshop on village basic skills training ended recently in Chaa-Kunda Village in Upper Fullaau West District in CRR South. Speaking earlier, the community development officer, Mr. Lamin Badgie, said the workshop was organised by the Department of Community Development and Funded Community Skills Improvement Project. It aims to train participants on such marketable skills as tie and dye, batik and entrepreneur ship.

According to CDO Badjie the rationale behind the training is skills acquisition in order to maintain the multi-purpose centres. He advised the participants to take the training seriously as a lot of money has been pumped into centralised training.

For her part the co-organiser Mrs. Fatou Sanneh, said the particular training targets 15 participants of which two are male. She disclosed that at the end of the training participants are expected to deliver back to their communities in their respective areas. Madam Sanneh also advised the participants to diversify their skills to generate more income. According to her, the Community Skills Improvement Project will provide all the materials needed to kick-start their activities including a D300,000 grant as start up capitol.

Mr. Johny Moses, a consultant who was leading the training, said that if more women and young people get involved in skills acquisition then the rate of unemployment will be drastically reduced. In her vote of thanks Mrs. Satang Manneh, on behalf of the participants, commended CSIP and DCD for their support. She also assured them that the skills acquired will be fully utalised as expected.
