39 Gambian Youths Arrested for Attempting to Sail to Europe

Thursday, June 19, 2008

Yet again no fewer than 39 Gambian youths were on Monday night arrested for being suspected of scheming to sail to Europe.

Sources disclose that the would-be immigrants were intercepted and captured in the mangrove swamps around Cape Point.

At the time of writing this story, they were reportedly held at the PIU headquarters in Kanifing.

The issue of Gambian youths trying to reach Europe, on unsafe, mostly sea voyages, has in recent times been a source of worry. Many attempts to stop these high-risk voyages have come to nought, as many continue to embark on this vulnerable expedition.

It was just last Friday when another total of 14 youths were reported to have been arrested for also trying to sail to Spain.
