NYP commences strategic planning As a youth parliamentarian flies off to the US

The National Youth Parliament on Saturday, 3rd May 2008, kickstarted its Strategic Planning process. Lead by Mr Alieu Darboe, a Private Consultant and  Senior Lecturer at the Management Development Institute (MDI), this initiative is expected to last for the next five years, and it sponsored by the Pro-Pag Advocacy Group.

Speaking at the launching forum attended by a cross section of youth parliamentarians, Hon Lamin F Bojang, Speaker of the National Youth Parliament, described the scheme as a course of action intented to direct the programs of the organisation as it strengthens its institutionalisation process.

“The need for a Strategic Work Plan for the National Youth Parliament,” stressed Hon. Bojang, “is long over due.” This the youth parliament Speaker contnued, will help enhance the organization’s effort in addressing issues of young people in a strategic and organised manner in order to be able to achieve the dreams of the founding members of the NYP. He Stressed that the participation of the members in the process was very crucial as they were the ones to implement it. He therefore urged implore them for their continoues involvement in the process.

In conclusion, Speaker Bojang expressed his organisation’s gratitude to Pro-Pag Advocacy Group’s Execututive Director, Dr Siga Jagne,  and Mr Alieu Darboe, for their commitment to the development of young people in supporting the NYP Strategic Plan.

Meanwhile, Honorable Fatoumata S. Baldeh, a member of the Western Region Youth Parliament of the National Youth Youth Parliament flew to the United States of America, last Friday, 2nd May 2008. According to report from the parliament’s secretariat, Hon Baldeh is attending the 16th Session of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-16) which kicks off from Monday, 5th  to Friday, 16th May 2008, at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Her participation, the report continues, has been made possible thanks to Inwent, a German non-profit organisation with worldwide operations, dedicated to human resource development, advanced training and dialogue, and the United Nations, for making the funds through the German Youth Council.

Hon. Baldeh, during her stay in New York, will be participating in series of activities, ranging from taking part in the CSD Youth Caucus, the intergenerational dialogue, donor meeting and a bilateral meeting with the German Youth Delegation. In addition, She is expected to make a presentation on the National Youth Parliament as a model of youth participation.

Hon. Baldeh is expected back home on Monday, 21st May 2008.
