Babylon 95 Trial Deferred Again

Tuesday, May 27, 2008

The ongoing Babylon trial at the Brikama Magistrates Court resumed yesterday. Making his submission on the resumption of the case, the Director of Public Prosecution, Mr Emmanuel Fagbenle, informed the court that there is need to review the entire file and come up with the necessary measure accordingly, noting that the civil land dispute case between the community of Makumbaya, Babylon and Kerewan is still pending. DPP Fagbenle observed that dealing with civil suits involving landed property is more difficult than criminal matters. He cautioned the court that there is more to be done in this case and consequently the need for time is a necessity. He admonished both parties not take the law into their own hands, and urged respect for the cherished Gambian value of peace.

With regard to the aforementioned submission, the state counsel applied for adjournment to enable him assess the case file in question. The defence counsel, Senior Lawyer Antouman Gaye, did not object to the submission.

The matter continues on 17th and 18th June for mention.
