Waa Juwara’s public endorsement of President Jammeh’s goverment at a meeting in his native Niamina signals an end to a strong and genuine opposition to the APRC regime .
This is because since the advent of the Second Republic, Juwara was the driving force behind the political oppositions to the APRC as he was at the forefront of criticism of Jammeh and his government. If he stood up today and publicly expressed regret against making such remarks some of which were inimical to public peace, it shows that with time every thing is possible.
My opinion is that Juwara seems to be sincere in his action because of the fact that he realized that president Jammeh has taken development to his native Dankunku which has improved the life of its inhabitants.
Today, Dankuku could boast of a modern health facility, a clean and hygenic water systern, telephone facility and vibrant agricultural project just to name a few. Before Dankunku was a safe haven for the opposition but not now and Juwara has realized that his people are abandoning him for the APRC due to what the president did for them.
I could recalled in late 2002 an APRC female bigwig personally telephoning Juwara and saying ”My brother I know you are surprised to receive a telephone call from me. I have read in the newspapers your remarks urging me to quit APRC. But instead I want you to do the opposite by joining the APRC simply because President Jammeh stood for the progress of the country. Juwara responded “ I will do so if your boss fulfilled his promise of bringing development to the door steps of all Gambians. This is what exactly happened now. I know ‘Awo Papa Saul’ is vindicated now.
I am told by an eye witness that most people in Dankunku were overwhelmed by Juwara ‘s action and the rest of the opposition need to learn a lesson from it.
Thanks goes to all those who worked in showing Juwara the light and I have no doubt that APRC members will welcome him wholeheartedly.
