Re: Indictment of African Leaders and Western Hypocrisy

Editor,

Allow me space in your respected paper to add spice to the comments or observations made by Daily Observer, regarding the indictment of Africa leaders. In more than many ways I think DO is right, especially the comparison made between Botha, Ian Smith and Charles Taylor.

All these people did wrong and deserved to be punished but for the fact that one is black and the others are white different rules were brought into play. Such hypocrisy must be brought to light. However, having said that we cannot exonerate those culprits who have committed heinous crimes against their people. The African people must make it clear that any one who commits crime against the people must face the consequences.

If such a message is not imprinted in the minds of leaders, then the African people will continue to suffer from those leaders who have little interest protecting the rights of their subjects. It is time that we speak with one voice against impunity be it African or otherwise.
