In yet another surprising tour, President Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh yesterday continued his unannounced visit to various government departments.
Accompanied by Teneng Ba Jaiteh, Secretary General and Head of the Civil Services, Lamin Bojang, secretary of state for Works and Infrastructure, Madam Fatou Jasey-Kuyateh, permanent secretary, Office of the Vice-President and other top government officials, President Jammeh toured the former VP residence and State Guest House in Bakau, among others the entire NARI premises in Yundum/Abuko, and Banjul Airport.
At NARI in Yundum/Abuko, President Jammeh was welcomed by the staff. During the tour, President Jammeh visited the citrus plant where seeds and fruits are processed into oil and exported to Europe during the 80s. This citrus processing machine according to officials, went down since 1989 and appealed to President Jammeh to assist them repair the machine.
At the plant and soil management unit, President Jammeh who also double as the secretary of state for Agriculture said all research units under the department be entirely under NARI. President Jammeh added tha he will revive the agricultural training stations within the country. Presisdent Jammeh also reiterated his willingness to introduce irrigation projects to ensure dry season cultivation.
The Gambian leader was then led to a conductd tour to the orchard, the groundnut farms and other gardens within the camp before visiting the NARI engineery station.
