TAYAM-Kafuta link holds cleansing exercise

In a bid to complement government efforts in the Operation-Clean-the-Nation, the Association of Youths Against Malaria (TAYAM) Kafuta link last Sunday embarked on a mass cleansing exercise at Kafuta Health Centre in Kombo East District, Westen Region.

TAYAM-Kafuta Link was formed in 2008 at the village to regularly embarked on mass cleansing exercise in keeping the environment clean and free from mosquitoes. It is was also aimed at sensitising the public about the dangers of malaria.

Speaking at the ceremony, Samba Baldeh, TAYAM coordinator at the village said the cleansing exercise is among their first activities since the inception of the link.

According to him, in order to fight malaria, people should first keep their environments clean to eradicate its breeding sources.

For her part, Mbee Saho, the health officer in-charged of Kafuta Health Centre commended the people for the initiative.

According to her, this mass cleansing exercise will greatly help the health facility to maintain cleanliness. She assured of the Health Center’s continued working relationships with other associations in realising their goals.

Lamin Jobarteh, the public health officer at the Health Center said mosquitoes always breed on dirty places and it should be a collective responsibility for people to make their surroundings clean.

Nfamara Jallow -Colley, chairman of the Village Development Committee commended the people for their efforts. He said TAYAM since inception, has been playing a leading role in the fight against malaria noting that the development of any community depends on the citizens of the area. "No one will come from another place to clean our environment. Let us forget all our differences and work as a team," he said.

Ousman Bojang, Village Development Committee (VDC) Secretary described youths as the engine block of any given society in realising their objectives.

Ousman Sowe, CHN attached to Kafuta Health Centre, Alkali Gitteh Chairmen TAYAM Kafuta link, Lamin Manjang, auditor, Momodou Sawanneh Jatta, assistant coordinator, Dembo Daffeh, adviser, Bayo Sanyang, PRO all expressed similar sentiments.

Ma Bintou Bojang assistant PRO delivered the vote of thanks.
