Malian Charged With Attempted Robbery

The truck driver, who rammed into an APRC campaign delegation in Serekundading, has been charged.

Alhaji Badjie is being accused of ‘killing’ 10 APRC supporters in January of this year when electioneering was underway for the recent local government elections. He was, on the 18thMarch 2008, arraigned before Magistrate Edrisa Mbai at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court charged with 12-count alleged offences.

According to the facts of the matter, Alhaji on or about 13thof January 2008, drove a motor vehicle with rash and negligence and without regard to the circumstance of the road thereby caused the deaths of Alieu Ceesay, Maimuna Saidy, Isatou Badjie, Malang Camara, Lamin Manga, Adama Camara, Binta Sowe, Fatoumatta Camara, Kitim Darboe and Lamin Sanneh.

He was also charged with driving a motor vehicle with defective tyres as well as an inefficient braking system.

When the facts of the matter were read and interpreted to Alhaji in the language he claimed to understand, he denied the charges and will go on trial soon.
