CCLK & BSC hold silver jubilee awards ceremony

The Christian Community of LatriKunda in collaboration with the Church of Blessed Sacrament Choir, recently held a Silver Jublee awards ceremony at a ceremony held at  St. Therese’s Church. Thirty-four senior members of St Cecilia’s Choir, Baati Linguer Coral Group, St Charles Luwanga Senior Choir, St Therese’s Junior Choir, and Star of the Sea Parish Choirs were awarded Silver Jubilee Achievement Certificates for serving the church for at least twenty-five years.
 
In his introductory remarks, Richard Joe Mendy of the CCLK recalled that in the early part of 2006, CCLK and Holy Family Choir held a similar event at Jama Hall Kairaba Hotel, were the former Secretary of State for Religious Affairs and now Mayor of Banjul Samba Faal presented certificates to thirteen senior choirmasters and the Police Band for their role in raising the standards of church liturgy music.

He urged young choristers to befriend the experienced members of their choirs in order for them to benefit from their expertise. that they can rely on these senior choristers as example worthy of emulation.

Mr Mendy went on to commend the CCLK Children, Blessed Sacrament and St Therese’s Junior Choirs for their giant strides in helping to develop young talents. While presenting the certificates to the Choristers, Angela B Colley, Secretary of State for Tourism and Culture, commended the organizers (CCLK and BSC) for the initiative and urged young people to become members of development oriented associations. She praised the Choristers and implored on them to maintain the momentum.
