Following the recent speculation about the increment of the Gambia Football Association national football league teams from ten to twelve, this has already come through, after the just concluded preseason meeting held last Saturday at The Independence Stadium in Bakau.
According to Jammeh EK Bojang, Secretary General of the Gambia Football Association, “We added two teams in to the national league to make it twelve teams, with Stevebiko and Seaview who were to face relegation will now remain in the first division while Interior FC and Samger will join the first division league this season”.
He said the FA has also introduced a regional first division league with six teams to take part in this year’s regional league.
“Due to the financial situation we decided to organize a regional league for six teams”.
He stated that the FA is working to have another cup to be sponsored by HE the President Dr Yaya A. J. J. Jammeh called the president trophy to have more competition in the first division league.
“Registration fees have also been increased from D1500 to 5000 for First division teams and Second division teams D750 to D2500”.
He said that the dead line for the receipt of the registration fee is the 15th of February 2008.
