“Development Possibilities in Commonwealth Assembly Meeting”

Thursday, November 13, 2008

The Gambia, host of the Commonwealth General Assemble Meeting, wills reap many benefits from the event. In light of this, Pointsports visited the main body responsible for facilitating this major event.

In an exclusive interview the deputy executive director of The Gambia National Olympic Committee and desk officer for the Commonwealth General Assemble Meeting, Mr. Lawrence Bruce, claimed that all the delegates who are to attend the meeting are countries affiliated with major sporting games. Moreover, Mr. Bruce went on to explain that The Gambia can make friends with some of the participating countries, who can in turn provide much sporting assistance for The Gambia. Another potential area that can benefit from this meeting is the education sector, claimed Mr. Bruce. According to him, “a few of the delegates would like to help in the development and improvement of the education sector.” Mr. Bruce further elucidated that in this meeting, The Gambia will also showcase its culture and its smiling coast through tourism.

However, each country is expected to send one delegate, who is supposed to deliberate on issues such as organisation that affect their region and allow biding countries to seek support for their bids, as explicitly posited by Mr. Bruce.

The meeting of Assembly will begins on the 17th of November 2008; the commonwealth games will take place in India in 2010 and in Glasgow in 2014.
