Bakau boy drowns

As picnic ends in tragedy

Junior and senior secondary schools throughout the Greater Banjul Area conduct inter-house sporting competitions during the second term of each academic year. These sporting events are followed by beach picnics that bring together students from different schools despite alarms raised by the authorities in order to prevent the possibility of disasters.

On Wednesday, one such disaster occurred at Leybato Beach, as one Abdoulie Ndow was reported missing after he went swimming. The victim is said to be a fresh high school graduate and a resident of Bakau.
 
Abdoulie Ndow is also said to be an amateur swimmer, which might be the cause of his drowning. Searches and rescue operations were carried out for over two days in order to find his body. At the time of going to press, there was still no new development.
