Delay in L/Gov’t Act battle

Tuesday, January 15, 2008
The ruling in the battle over the amendment to the Local Act has suffered a delay, following an adjournment by the Chief Justice (CJ). Justice Abdou Karim Savage, who has been presiding over the case at the Supreme Court, re-adjourned the case to Wednesday for ruling.

This development cropped up after the counsel for the plaintiffs and the defendants met briefly in the Chambers of the Chief Justice. Parties to the case informed waiting reports that the case was adjourned to Wednesday.

The Attorney General and Secretary of State for Justice Marie Saine-Firdaus, who is representing the state, alongside IEC’s counsel Amie Joof-Conteh, made counter-submission against the submission by Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, who is representing UDP, NRP and the minority leader, Momodou Lamin Sanneh.
