The Hume City Broncos are gearing up for a massive 2008 season in the Big V Championship Men's competition with 2007 star recruit Pierre Jallow signing for another year.
A late start to the 2007 season saw Gambian Pierre Jallow turn the Broncos losing streak into a winning one, ending the season in sixth place and making it through to the preliminary finals after knocking out Warrnambool in the qualification round, before succumbing to the Dandenong Rangers, who went on to take the Big V Championship title. A happy Jallow said that it feels good to be returning to the court with the same group of guys.
"We complement each other very well on the court and have formed very good bonds off it," Jallow said of the relationship he has developed with his teammates.
"Basketball is a game of habits, and a second season with the same group will definitely see us get more acquainted with each other's habits. So expect a great season from not only individuals but us as a team."
Broadmeadows Basketball Association General Manager, Terri Sutton is thrilled with the signing of Jallow for another season. "It was very important for us to try and keep Pierre for a further twelve months with what he provided on and off the court in 2007 for our association. He proved to be a very important part of our on-court performances with his 14 game season and this was also evident with his nominations for awards. His off court presence within the club was also very highly regarded by all within the association," Mrs. Sutton said.
The team has also announced the signing of coach Kevin Fleming, who will be entering his fifth year at the helm of the Broncos, with Mike Spears, Greg Smith, Brad Collins and Russell McIntosh also signing on for another year with the team.
"I think with the re-signing of Jallow and Fleming along with Spears, Smith, Collins and McIntosh, it is once again a quality team that will have an opportunity to make an impact on the floor. With such signings, the Broncos can only move in one direction. These quality players not only create a huge challenge to their opposing clubs, but their input and encouragement to the remainder of the squad, which consists of Broadmeadows local talent, earns respect from all involved at the Club," Mrs. Sutton said. Fleming added that he is very excited about Jallow signing on for another year with the Broncos, and detailed his influence on the team throughout this season.
"Pierre Jallow brought to us his athleticism and work ethic. He scored and rebounded well for us, and how we went about the game had a great influence on the team," Fleming said. The 2008 Big V season will commence in late March.
