The 2007/2008 Gambian National Basketball league will finally kick off after the month of Ramadan.
That was revealed to Pointsport by the President of the Gambia Basketball Federation, Mam Essa Gaye.
Speaking in an interview in his office on Tuesday, Mr Gaye revealed that plans are underway for the All Starts tournament and the Super Cup final between last year’s league champions and knockout winners.
He pointed out that 16 male teams and 6 female teams are expecting to participate in this year’s championship as some new teams have affiliated to the Federation and would take part in the league.
“This year’s championship would be played in our new ground situated opposite GPMB and West African Examination Council and some people are already lining up for sponsorship and it’s going to be very exciting for Basketball,” he revealed.
Mr Gaye also mentioned that a game between the veteran Basketballers would be stage for the opening of the court as a sign of appreciation for their immense contribution to the development of Basketball in The Gambia.
